Genuine Merrill A-40 or Merrill A40 brass valve body for the C1000 Hydrant. This is the part at the bottom of the long pipe that is the actual valve of the hydrant. Inside of the body the plunger slides up and down as you move the handle. The hole on the side is called the weep hole, when you turn the hydrant off the weep hole is uncovered and the water in the riser pipe drains so it can't freeze. The smaller end is where the main water supply threads in. This part does contain lead. For a no lead option use part ANL-40.
